Inmate charged for punching another inmate
A 48-year-old homeless Key West man in Key West jail for trespassing was further charged with aggravated battery Saturday after hitting another inmate.
Bureau of Corrections Deputy Marc Floyd saw Jose Antonio Roques arguing with another inmate, Deputy Floyd got between them and told both to quiet down. The other inmate did so and walked away, up some stairs. Roques continued to yell at the other inmate, while Deputy Floyd continued to give him verbal commands to cease. As Deputy Floyd was doing this, a third inmate, Timothy Allen Smith, 48, got up and attempted to get out the way of both Roques and Deputy Floyd. Roques then began yelling at Smith, who continued to try to back away.
Roques then hit Smith in the face, cutting Smith’s lip.
Deputy Floyd radioed for help from other Deputies in detaining Roques.
Roques remains in jail on $45,000 bail. He is in jail for trespassing at the Key Haven Shell® gas station in March.
Smith has been in jail since January on a charge of selling drugs.
