Man arrested for stealing dive gear

A 40-year-old Fort Lauderdale man was booked into jail Tuesday a warrant regarding the theft of approximately $1,300 in scuba gear from a Key Largo dive shop last year.

Jose Fernando Ricciarelli Aguilar was charged with grand theft and fraud.

The case began in June 2017 when the Key Largo Dive Center owner reported that a former employee, Ricciarelli Aguilar, had recently quit that month. The owner stated Ricciarelli Aguilar had previously special ordered $1,298.86 in dive gear for use while on dive trips for work. The business allowed employees to wear the gear in order to promote the same items for sale in their store, with caveat being that the items are to be paid for in full before they are allowed to leave the business property.

The owner showed emails in which Ricciarelli Aguilar admitted to having the items, but that he would pay for them. Ricciarelli Aguilar never paid for the items.

Warrants were issued for his arrest. Ricciarelli Aguilar had been living in Key Largo at the time of the incident, but moved thereafter.

He was booked into jail on Tuesday.
