MONROE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS INVITED TO ENTER GLOBAL ESSAY COMPETITION TO WIN SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDY ABROAD TRIPS FOR SUMMER 2018

The Experiment in International Living invites Monroe County, FL, high school students to enter the 2018 Global Leaders Essay Competition.  Thirty winners will receive merit-based scholarships of 50 per cent off to study abroad this summer on one of the Experiment’s 32 programs around the globe.

This marks the second year The Experiment is holding an essay competition in Monroe County, offering a range of scholarships and financial aid to winners.

Last year, eight teens from four local high schools – Coral Shores High School, Key West Collegiate Academy. Key West High School and Marathon High School –were essay competition winners and travelled to programs in Germany, Thailand, Ecuador, China, France, Japan, and Tanzania.

“The Experiment provides young people in Monroe County the opportunity to broaden their horizons, to immerse in other cultures, and to gain much needed skills in a rapidly changing and increasingly dynamic world, said Aaron Morehouse, executive director of The Experiment in International Living and vice president of World Learning.

“These young global citizens learn resilience and are ready to support their local communities when they return.”

Additional need-based financial aid will be made available to students who exhibit need in the application process. Scholarship recipients will receive a certificate of recognition from The Experiment in International Living, the leader in international exchange, experiential learning and leadership programs for high school youth for more 85 years.

Need-based, high school study abroad scholarships range from $250 to $3,000

A total of 29 students from Monroe County participated in Experiment programs around the world in 2017, making it the largest concentration of students participating than any other county in the U.S. outside of the New York City Metro area.

The Experiment in International Living has been the leader in international education and experiential learning for high school students for more than 85 years. On our two, three-, four- and five-week high school study abroad programs to 26 countries, students explore the world through hands-on experiences and homestays in local communities through the lens of a specific theme.
