TERRY’S PICKY PALATE / Exploring the Bayou Trio at Blossom’s Cajun Kitchen

I love Louisiana cuisine. And in Key West if you’re looking to satisfy an urge for that spicy, satisfying, seafood-based food, there’s really only one option: Blossom’s Cajun Kitchen, located at 408 White St.
New Orleans natives Shannan and Jose Delarosa bought the place, then just a sandwich counter, four years ago, and proceeded to transform it into a proper eatery, with dine-in tables, and a wide selection of Louisiana favorites, from Gumbo, to Crawfish Etoufee, and Muffaletta sammys.
All their food is “from scratch, from scratch,” according to Jose, including their sauces, Andouille Sausage, and even their breads.
On the day of my visit the Delarosas decided to give me the full treatment.
They served me the Bayou Trio, featuring shrimp, crawfish, and gator in an “Orgasmic” Sauce.
“No kidding,” Shannan said. “That’s the reaction we always see after a customer takes the first bite. They’re like ‘Ooooohhhhhh my God!’”
That’s no lie.
The creamy, fish-based sauce is indeed, well . . . orgasmic, and the huge portion of shrimp and crawfish, served over rice, is delicious. Even the gator, which I’m not all that experienced with, is tender and perfectly prepared.
“It’s very healthy too,” Jose said. “Half the fat of chicken.”
Shannan is very encouraged by the response she’s seen to Blossom’s offerings on review sites such as Yelp and Trip Adviser.
“One guy wrote that if he was on death row, he’d order the Bayou Trio as his last meal,” she said with a laugh.
It truly is food to die for!
“This is where Key West meets New Orleans,” Shannan said. “We like to say that we’re creating Cajun addicts one bite at a time. No one leaves here hungry.”
I sure didn’t.
So come on down to Blossom’s and get jazzed over this terrific food!
Blossom’s Cajun Kitchen is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Closed Sunday. Take out is available, as well as free delivery all over Key West. Cards accepted.
