Key West Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President Virginia A. Panico, said, the Chamber has been dedicated to supporting District teachers and students for many years . “We believe in educating our youth and also thanking our teachers by sponsoring their classrooms with gift donations solicited from Key West businesses. The importance of higher education has always been first and foremost for the Chamber. That’s why the membership awards four scholarships to deserving students every year. We also understand teachers should receive the most current business education to pass
along to students in their classes, so, we established the Educational Enrichment Program that offers our educators, on their summer break, the opportunity to obtain additional training to bring back to the classroom.”
“Teachers feel so honored to receive this money for their classrooms and appreciate the Chamber for recognizing them,” said
Jennifer Barrios Monroe County School District Social Studies Coordinator and Chamber Education Committee Member.
The Chamber also awards more than $30,000 to students at Key West High School, one of the three high schools in the District. The Monroe County School District serves approximately 8,800 students throughout the upper, middle, lower keys, and Key West. The accredited school district consists of ten public schools, six charter schools, and alternative and virtual schools. To learn more about the District’s mission, visit www.keysschools.com.
