This exhibition will be intriguing and is sure to appeal to a wide range of tastes. Nyla Witmore’s impressionistic representations of “intimate” Key West, Paris and Provence are fresh and alluring. Particularly noteworthy are works created while in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico several months ago. In all of her paintings one can feel her wonderful sense of color.

Nyla Witmore, who is becoming well known to Key West, joined the Gingerbread Square Gallery stable of artists in 2008, earned a BS from Central Michigan University. She later studied at the Dana DeCordova Museum of Modern art in Lincoln, MA and participated in numerous intensive workshops and in-depth studies with Kim English, Kevin Weckbach, Scott Christensen, Robert J. Johnson, Michael Workman and Jeff Legg.

She has been featured in numerous prestigious publications including “SOUTHWEST ART MAGAZINE”, “AMERICAN ART REVIEW”, “Denver Woman Magazine,” “Art News” and has been recognized in a TV segment titled “The Spirit of Colorado.” She has participated in a number of prestigious exhibitions in France and too many to list in this country. She is a member of “Oil Painters of America,” “Plein Air Painters of Colorado” and the “American Impressionist Society” Nyla Witmore’s paintings are calming and meditative. Having painted in Giverny at Monet’s home and being influenced by impressionist masters she particularly enjoys plein-air painting.

Painting 5 to 6 hours a day, she usually completes at least 50 paintings per year. Ms. Witmore’s usual subjects include her well-known intimate French and Italian landscapes as well as Key West and Southwest plein-air studies. Having developed her talents over many years, she is also equally at ease creating exquisite still lifes with oriental bowls, figurines and flowers. Always wanting to try something new, her interpretive musical abstraction paintings have received much acclaim. In 2007 she was asked to paint on stage with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, for their opening concert. The task was to interpret the music for Richard Strauss’ “Death and Transfiguration.” This was projected on a large overhead screen above the orchestra to allow the audience to experience fully the collaboration of this painting and music event.” She continues to frequently paint large canvases in an intuitive abstract style.

Nyla Witmore’s work can be seen in galleries throughout the United States. Original paintings, some very large, hang in private and corporate collections from Beverly Hills to Boston as well as England, France, Greece, Canada, Australia and Japan. Although originally known for her watercolor and acrylic paintings, she now paints almost exclusively in oils.
