Two Key Largo Events For Parents & Caregivers

KEY LARGO- The Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition invites all parents and caregivers to two events they are holding.  The first will be a Keys to Kids Safety Event.

  • It will be held on Saturday, February 6 from 11 am-3 pm.
  • Location is Centennial Bank parking lot, 100280 Overseas Hwy, Key Largo.
  • Available services include checking or installing car seats, fitting free bicycle helmets, and information on safe sleep for infants, water safety, and other child safety questions.
  • Services at this event are free and car seats will be available for a small donation to families who need a new seat.
  • The Key Largo Firefighters Benevolent Association and Centennial Bank will be cooking hot dogs and hamburgers at the event to benefit Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition and the Benevolent Association.

The second event is an Infant/Child CPR and Choking Prevention class.

  • It will be held Thursday, February 25, 2016, 9:00-11:00 am.
  • The class will meet in the offices of Wesley House Family Services, 99451 Overseas Highway, Suite 200, Key Largo (above Capital Bank).
  • Attendees will learn invaluable life-saving skills. In addition to instruction on infant/child CPR and choking assistance, the class will briefly cover shaken baby prevention, poison control and home safety.
  • Attendees will receive a Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Ready Reference to take home.
  • To keep the cost affordable, participants will NOT receive American Heart Association certification, however, the class is taught by a certified instructor and will cover the same information.
  • There is a $25 registration fee payable by cash or check on the day of the class, or participants may pay by credit card in advance at KeysHealthyStart.org.

The class is for adults only and no child care will be provided. Space is limited and prior registration is required by calling (305) 293-8424 at least 2 days in advance. The class will be cancelled in the event of low pre-registration.

“We are committed to making sure that babies in the Keys are born healthy and have a safe future,” said Arianna Nesbitt, Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition CEO. “Hosting these events are two more ways we can assist in ensuring children’s safety. We strive to give parents the skills that may save their child or loved one’s life in an emergency situation.”
