FKAA Extends Assistance To Senior Citizens And Disabled Veterans

Florida Keys – January 26, 2016 – The FKAA is continuing its effort to assist income eligible seniors and permanently disabled veterans by reducing their monthly utility bills. This discount removes the base facility charge for the water bill and will also eliminate the wastewater base facility charge for those customers in FKAA wastewater districts (Bay Point, Big Coppitt, Cudjoe Regional, Conch Key, Duck Key, Key Haven and Layton). Monthly savings of up to $41.90 per month can be realized. This assistance is currently provided to over 1,200 households in the Keys.

To be eligible the applicant must be 60 years of age or older or they must be a permanently disabled veteran on the date of application. Applicants must also meet the income requirements whereby the income cannot exceed the maximum annual Social Security Retirement Benefit. The current maximum income for a single home occupant is $31,668 per household and, for a residence with more than one occupant; the maximum amount is $63,336.

To apply, customers simply complete the Affidavit Application, which can be obtained in person at any of the FKAA’s three customer service offices, or can be sent to the customer via mail, email or fax. Original notarized applications are required to be submitted and notaries are available at each customer service location. New applications are accepted throughout the calendar year and existing recipients must reapply on a yearly basis.
