Literacy Volunteers Of America (LVA)- Monroe County

Benihana Supports Literacy Volunteers:  Thanks to Benihana owner Mark Hyatt, his staff and the generosity of local community contributors, the 7th Annual Benihana Celebrity Chef Cook Off to benefit Literacy Volunteers of America (LVA) – Monroe County, Inc. grossed over $29,000.  100% of event profits stay in Key West to pay for books and materials, training, insurance, rent, travel, staffing and rent to support day-to-day operations—keeping their doors open.  LVA provides free, confidential, one-to-one and small group literacy training by trained volunteers for Monroe County residents who read and write at below a 5th grade level or need speaking and understanding English.  Last year 114 volunteers assisted 324 students to achieve personal goals through increased literacy skills.
