South Florida Symphony Summer Chamber Music Concert IV Features Svetlana Smolina and Friends in “Russian Soul”, Friday, July 17, 2015

Gracing the Key West stage with the last of four concerts in its Summer Chamber Music Series, the South Florida Symphony presents Svetlana Smolina and Friends in “Russian Soul”. The program provides another exceptional opportunity for patrons to delight in Smolina’s brilliant mastery of the keys, this time joined by talented friends Yves Dharamraj playing the cello and Irina Schuck at the violin. The well-matched trio delivers a lilting repertoire including Faure’s “Elegie, Op. 24” (for cello and piano), Debussy’s “Violin Sonata” (violin and piano), Massenet’s “Meditation from Thais “(violin and piano), Chopin’s “Ballade No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 23” (piano solo), Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2” (piano solo), and Chausson’s “Piano Trio in G Minor, Op. 3” (piano, cello, and violin). As in her solo chamber music concert “Dances from the Heart” offered to elated listeners this past May, Smolina charms not only with her sensuous tones and graceful demeanor at the piano but also with her poignant insights into the lives of her composers and significance of their works.
