Here we go again…The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. After fifty plus years of “punishing” Fidel and having nothing to show for it, these guys want to continue this policy failure, what…until the end of time? Apparently there are some insane lawmakers in Tallahassee. This is a two-fer for our right wing friends up there in South Georgia..They get to talk about their favorite topic, trashing Castro, and get to give the hated black guy in the White House grief. I would have been surprised if they hadn’t wrote this predictable missive.
It has been over 50 years since the Embargo went into effect. Since then, we’ve renewed relations with Russia and we’ve never stopped dealing freely and openly with China. Yet, here we are in Tallahassee telling President Obama we aren’t in favor of renewing relations with Cuba. In my humble opinion, it has been the embargo as much as the Castro regime that has impoverished the Cuban people in their homeland. If not for that stupid on-going non-relationship, we would be traveling freely back and forth, bringing money onto the island to put it back into the pockets of the people of Cuba, eventually. Yes, I realize there is still a Communist government, per se, but we aren’t helping by restricting travel and relations with the Cuban government and the Cuban people. I hope the president will take the Florida legislators with a grain of salt. Most of us do.
