RED BARN GALA PUTS YOU IN THE “BIZ”

Key West’s venerable Red Barn Theatre is celebrating their 35th anniversary of bringing top-notch theatre to town this year, and what better way to do it than to invite their friends and supporters to join them inside “the Biz” for a night– Show Biz, that is.

The little theatre with the big heart at 319 Duval Street will be using their one big fundraiser for the year to throw a special “Show Biz Gala” on Sunday, March 1st– a Travelling Party to mark their big anniversary event, and everyone is invited. Those in attendance will not only be feted with great food and drink, but will also be invited to the grounds of two of the most elegant homes in Key West, generously donated for the occasion by their owners.

Things get started at 5:30 pm with a lively quick stop at the stunning home of Jim and Kathy Haymaker on Whitehead Street in Key West. Tasty Champagne Kir Royales will be one of the highlights here, courtesy of Mark Gambuzza and UVA Wine Shop and Wine Bar. There will also be delectable hors d’oeuvres from Three Fine Cooks to nibble on. Attendees can enjoy the gorgeous grounds of the Haymaker home while sipping their drinks and chatting with many of the theatre folk who have brought them great shows over the past 35 years.

Then it’s off for a short two-block walk (or ride, if needed) to the beautiful home of John and Kay Behmke on Front Street, where the party shifts into high gear. A Red Carpet and paparazzi will greet the newly-minted attendee “stars”, who will be ushered into a glittering Show Biz world on the grounds of the glamorous Behmke home.

An Open Bar will serve cocktails, and a selection of fine French wines will be available, again courtesy of UVA Wine Shop. The Iron Chefs will prepare a Tony Award-worthy dinner followed by the most decadent of desserts. Local favorite Dave Bootle will kick off the evening’s entertainment with a Sunset Celebration, Live and Silent Auctions, and dancing into the night.

The Silent Auction will feature many marvelous opportunities to “live like a star” – a One Week Cottage Stay in France; a Two-Night Stay at the Marquesa Hotel; the stunning red dress worn by actress George Dibraud in the smash hit “Clark Gable Slept Here”, currently playing through March 7 at the Red Barn;

Dinner Certificates from Pisces, Commodore, Latitudes, Square One, Hot Tin Roof, Bistro 245 restaurants and more; a Dance Party for 12 with Salsa Lessons and a Live Latin Band; paintings by some of Key West’s top artists, including Sal Salinero, Jack Baron, Dick Moody, and the special artist’s rendering of

“Hollywood Eyes” by Adam Scott Rote used on the Gala invitation; and stunning, Hollywood-starlet-style scarves from Hands On and Blue, just to name a few.

All in all, an evening of glitz and glamour, food and wine, stars and starlets, all of which supports the operation of the non-profit Red Barn Theatre, one of the mainstays of theatre in Key West. Tickets are $125 per person, available by calling the box office at 305-296-9911, or by going to redbarntheatre.com.

All proceeds go toward the support of the Red Barn, as they embark on their next 35 years of bringing great theatre to Key West.
