The KONK Life Questionnaire:
Danny Coll
Konk Life has invited each and every candidate in the upcoming elections to answer the following 20 questions about themselves and their candidacy.
Q: Daniel A. Coll, tell us your age, what office you’re running for and any previous offices held.
A: Age is 56 and you can call me Danny. I’m running for County Commissioner, district 2, and I have never held public office.
Q: Explain your platform and why you are running:
A: I am running to represent you on all-important issues like competitive bidding, wastewater, windstorm and flood insurance.
Q: Detail how you differ from your competing candidates:
A: I am available to your readers. Call me on my cell phone, 305-872-1111 or email me [email protected] to discuss the issues important to you.
Q: Tell us your personal history — education; professional career; family life and how long you’ve lived in the Keys or the county and your relationship to the Florida Keys and/or Key West:
A: Graduated from Miami Lakes Senior High, then studied at Miami Dade Community College as an emergency medical technician, also at FKCC in Key West and paramedic school at EMS Academy in Broward. My parents migrated from Cuba in the 1960s, looking for freedom and a better life for my sister and me, I was raised in Miami and have lived in Cudjoe Key for more than 20 years. I was quite successful in business in Miami and then here in the Keys.
Q: Touch on your personal passions in addition to the above:
A: I have a serving spirit and have volunteered most of my life. I stay active in the community: President elect of Lower Keys Rotary; mentor with Take Stock in Children; member of Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce; I teach basic life support and advanced cardiac life support at Lower Keys Medical Center as an American Heart instructor, and enjoy flying, fishing as well as reading and writing.
Q: Describe where, in your view, we are going wrong in the Keys and/or Key West:
A: There are many things that concern me about this county, with the latest one being that some commissioners pushed to approve a 10-year no-bid extension contract on solid waste.
Q: Tell us the political flash points you expect to encounter if elected:
A: Regardless of what the problem is we can overcome any obstacle by working together. Checks and balances are important and productive; divisive rhetoric is not.
Q: Tell us anything you feel you need to explain or any misapprehension you believe voters may have of you:
A: Voters can be confident that a vote for Danny Coll is a vote for positive change.
Q: Give us your view on the partisan divisiveness in politics today and any solution to it you might have:
A: Debate and discourse are normal in a healthy democracy. It is up to elected officials to keep the future squarely in our crosshairs and not allow unproductive negativism and friction to creep in.
Q: Given that gender equality, income parity, voting rights and sexual preferences continue as big political issues nationwide today, tell us on which side of the aisle you stand:
A: I am a fiscal conservative and a social moderate.
Q: And how about immigration, gun control and capital punishment:
A: It is regrettable that an issue sometimes becomes a political football. I will work on the big issues facing us here in Monroe County: Wastewater and property insurance.

A: “Modern Marvels.”
