Rick Boettger is 100% correct! Every time any commission votes to take local jobs from locals, especially jobs that are not highly paid, but might give them some kind of benefits and job security, is an unfair and unjust move. Why on earth would Monroe County want to pay (probably more in the long run) for custodial serves to Cleveland, Ohio? This makes no sense and there should be a law in place to forbid it. It’s difficult enough to survive in the Keys, and then for your own county to take away your jobs to outsource to another state is a huge slap in the face and will probably result in a larger exodus of the middle class from the place we all loved and wanted to live forever. But, Rick, hasn’t that been the idea all along? Get more of the middle class out of paradise and leave it for the more affluent? Monroe County can no longer complain about the outsourcing to other countries when it takes its own middle class workers’ jobs and outsources them to other states. What’s the difference? I see none.
KD …. I dunno …. your quote,
“…two of my relatives with lifetime secure government jobs…”
That just rubs me the wrong way.
Well written; well argued. Yes, there is more to life than the bottom line. Unfortunately, the School Board doesn’t seem to grasp that.
