Rooster noise also exists to a very loud degree in Port-au-Prince, Haiti – built from sea level to up the mountain – the day/night rooster singing echoes as does the barking dogs, and voodoo drums. ha.

You’re credibility as a long time conch that can speak the facts from personal experience is wonderful. The chickens/roosters of KW, although beautiful to look at, and somewhat of a “Key West Thing” need to be dealt with seriously and officially. The majority of the Roosters in my neighborhood are defined “Nuisance Poultry” under the city animal control ordinance, and therefor should be removed. Additionally, the city needs to enforce the ordinance more against those that are in violation for feeding ‘wild animals’. Sincerely, Sleepless in Bahama Village.
Great poem, Jean. I want to put it to music, and sing it at them. When I bike past Harvey Gov’t Center, I throw some BIG opera at the cocks, and it drives them nuts! Hey, I do this in daylight hours, briefly, don’t want to be part of the problem, just give them a short dose of their own medicine.
