Pianist Jeffrey Biegel to star with Symphony March 27
Internationally renowned pianist Jeffrey Biegel is to perform as the featured soloist in “A Summons to Life,” the South Florida Symphony’s final Key West master concert of its 16th anniversary season. Biegel and the symphony, composed of eminent classical musicians from around the United States, are scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 27, at the Tennessee Williams Theatre, 5901 College Road.
Guided by award-winning conductor and Key West native Sebrina Maria Alfonso, the unique orchestra began as the Key West Symphony and later expanded to offer concerts around South Florida. As well as the core group of skilled musicians, each performance features others chosen to enhance the specific program.
The evening concert is to begin with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 35, known as the “Haffner,” and end with Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 “Spring.” Between the two renowned compositions, Biegel is to display his artistry in Ellen Taaffe Zwilich’s “Shadows,” a concerto for piano and orchestra. Soloist Biegel is a chart-topping classical recording artist as well as an accomplished composer and arranger.
He has appeared with leading symphonies around the world including the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra for the premiere of Zwilich’s “Shadows.” Before the March performance, attendees can enjoy a 6:45 p.m. “symphony chat” with classical pianist and music historian Edward Pitts at the Tennessee Williams Theatre.
A post-concert reception is scheduled with Alfonso, Biegel and orchestra members. Tickets for the symphony’s Key West performance with Biegel range from $25 to $75 per person depending on seat location. Tickets can be purchased online at www.keystix.com.
