This is regrettable, and a good, safe reason to stay in hotels not vacation house rentals. In libdem Ann Arbor when I lived at my Ukrainian grandma’s house on Detroit St, the homeless, heroin addicts, drunks, mentally. ill and the like would try and get in my front door on porch. The local police told me they just get house confused. wtf is going on with our tax payer supported police forces?
This entire story should be put onto the Facebook page ‘Cemetery Thief’! We’ve all been following this and I was also treated in the same manner when I saw what looked like this burglar. The police that night tried to hush me and then two detectives came to my home the next day making me feel like I’d done something wrong and to say that they know who this is that I saw and it wasn’t him doing the burglaries. How can they be so sure. They then told me that there’s only been one reported burglary when we all know there have been many and many ‘almost’ break-ins.
Here we go again. When are the town fathers and the mayor going to wake the fxxx up and do something about the police chief and his criminal organization. First it’s covering up a murder and now no reporting because they don’t want any more publicity on thieves they can’t catch. We pay way too dearly to live here in key west and deserve much better.
Maybe it is overdue a national news circuit should answer why tourism dollars trumps safety of visitors and citizens. It has happened forever around her, but the playing field is different now that we have this thing called the interest, along with 300 cable channels. External investigation of KWPD and the politicians is the only path to progress.
Folks, this is the perfect example of why we need to protect our rights to keep and bear arms. The police can’t protect you 24/7. Sometimes they may be unwilling to. Sometimes you may be the one who protects someone else. Though the issue of gun control may be a two-edged sword, the solution is not to ban them. Be pro-active for you defense and safety. Don’t allow that burglar’s smug comment, “You don’t have a gun,” be a result of illegality of ownership. Don’t allow your fears to rule you or have fear sold to you. Arm yourself but learn firearms safety, know the law and be responsible. You life depends on it.
Without trying to spark a debate that spirals out of control, I agree with Jim’s comments regarding gun control. I myself do not own a gun, but this is a perfect example of why a citizen should always have the right to own and use one. Without that deterrent, a bad guy can just laugh at you while he continues to come forward. Glad to hear the Morrissey’s made it through that experience, but very sorry that the ugly taste of crime and corruption and apathy is what they went home with after visiting our town.
An amazing story, How many other non-reports are there? No wonder we keep getting burgled.
