It’s going to be a bumpy ride
With N. Roosevelt detours
Work on the North Roosevelt Boulevard seems to be picking up with the anticipated completion deadline of July 2014 fast approaching. However, Dean Walters, spokesperson for the Florida Department of Transportation, puts the program at Day 679 of 820 or 82.8 percent completed. That, however, leaves 141 days or nearly five months.
The following two weeks, according to Walters, will be a busy ones with detours affecting many drivers.
Sewer and water line work will continue on the Salt Run Bridge (at Winn-Dixie) with lanes being closed periodically at night and possibly during the day for the rest of the boulevard. There will draining and utility work from the bridge to Eisenhower Ave.
On Tuesday, street light foundations will be installed on First Street, restricting one lane from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Consequently, traffic on First approaching Roosevelt will be down to one lane, although drivers will be able to go straight onto Palm Avenue and turn left or right onto Roosevelt. Driers from North Roosevelt will continue not to be permitted to turn left on to First Street.
The Wednesday installation of a signal foundation at Kennedy Drive will mean that inbound drivers will not be permitted to turn left onto Kennedy from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic officers will direct drivers to turn right onto Sigsbee Road or continue straight on Roosevelt. To help incoming drivers wishing to turn left, there will be a detour at 14th Street (Glynn Archer Jr. Drive).
On both Wednesday and Thursday, there will be night work from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Jose Marti Drive. Consequently, Jose Marti will be closed during those hours from N. Roosevelt to Virginia Street.
Likewise, the outbound lane of N. Roosevelt will be closed at the intersection of Jose Marti. Traffic will be rerouted to Eisenhower Drive to Eaton Street to Palm and back to N. Roosevelt.
From next Sunday, March 9, through Thursday, March 13, the northbound lane of Eisenhower will be closed for staging of filtration tanks in connection with the waterline hookup. That detour will be around Palm Avenue to Eaton to Eisenhower, said Walters. Local access for residents will be available on side streets, such as Florida or Georgia streets. Southbound traffic on Eisenhower will not be affected.
During the same period, from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. only, inbound traffic on North Roosevelt will be closed at the intersection of Palm Avenue, and will be detoured onto Palm Avenue to Eaton Street to Eisenhower Blvd. with access back to North Roosevelt.
