The skeletal remains of a man were found Monday in a wooded area off College Road – near the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, as well as KOTS, the nighttime home for homeless persons.

According to Sheriff’s spokesperson Becky Herrin, a man saw the bones and called the sheriff’s dispatcher.

The body was found about 10 feet into a wooden area across from Gerald Adams School.

Deputy Vicki Lockwood-Fleck reported to the area at about 10 a.m. Also responding was Major Crimes Detective Lissette Zuelch, who will be investigating along with the Medical Examiner.

Also in the area was a bag containing belongings, including possible identifying documents, such as a Florida driver’s license. However, a closer examination of the body will be required before officials can match the bones with the driver’s license.

The bones were turned over to the ME in an attempt to identify the bones as well as determine a reason for his death. Detectives said the body may have been there for months. There were no obvious signs of foul play, said Herrin.
