“There have been numerous close calls recently between bicycles and cars entering and exiting driveways along North Roosevelt Blvd.,” warned spokesperson Dean Walters in his most recent update for the Florida Department of Transportation.  “Please be aware  – drivers please watch for bicyclists and pedestrians, and bicyclists and pedestrians please be aware that drivers may not see you about to cross their path.”

On Day 600 of the 820 day project, Walters reported the construction 73.2 percent complete, on target for a finish date of July 2014. “The sidewalk/promenade is open from the south end of the Salt Run Channel Bridge to Eisenhower Blvd. The remainder of the sidewalk/promenade remains closed and all bicycle/pedestrian traffic will continue to use the dedicated lane separated by concrete barrier and fencing. Please,” he asked again, “use caution.”

Walters also advised that “the final shift of traffic from the business side to the water side of North Roosevelt Boulevard has been delayed until after the first of the year.” During the next two weeks, “Drainage work will continue throughout the project, as will installation of new lighting. Curbing, sidewalk and paving work will continue.”

He also warned of lane closures with detours scheduled “from Wednesday, Dec. 18 through Saturday, Dec. 21 along North Roosevelt Blvd./Truman Ave. from Georgia St. to Eisenhower Drive. Truman Ave. from Georgia Street to Eisenhower Dr. will be south bound/in bound traffic only and detours will be clearly marked using White, Georgia, Flagler, and First streets as alternate routes for outbound traffic. Friday and Saturday, the intersection at Georgia and Truman will be closed and traffic detoured on Palm and White streets.”

The report also updated FDOT progress involving Bahia Honda Bridge repair and resurfacing and shoulder widening from Grassy Key to Layton.“Night time work may occur at any time during the project. Please exercise caution and obey police and flagmen,” Walters said. Of course, “All work schedules are subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.”
