Zonta Club of Key West Sponsors Heart Health Initiative for Local Women

Launched in 2012, the Zonta Club of Key West is again sponsoring its annual Heart Health Initiative to bring attention to the fact that heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States. One in three women die of heart disease or stroke, according to the American Heart Association. Because prevention and early detection are paramount, Zonta has again partnered with Womankind to provide free comprehensive blood screenings to women in the lower Keys community regardless of income or insurance status.

“Over the past five years, Zonta has donated $16,870 so 337 women could access life-saving comprehensive blood screenings,” said club president Lisa Benfield. “We couldn’t be more focused on continuing local support for this important women’s health initiative.”

Exams will include blood pressure checks, blood screenings (complete blood count, thyroid, complete metabolic panel and total lipid panel), BMI (body mass index which is an indicator of risk) and a follow-up consultation on the results. Appointments for the up to 80 free comprehensive blood screenings during the month of March and April can be made beginning February 1st by calling Womankind at 305-294-4004 which is located at 1511 Truman Avenue in Key West.

Make the call today to schedule your comprehensive blood screening to learn about your risks for heart disease and stroke and stay “heart healthy” for yourself and your loved ones.
