Zephyrhills, Florida man arrested for reckless driving on U.S. 1
A 45-year-old Zephyrhills, Florida man was arrested for fleeing from Deputies on U.S. 1 early Saturday morning.
David Michael Bloom was charged with DUI, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
The incident began at 2:47 a.m. Saturday when Deputy Cody Jackson observed a southbound vehicle traveling more than 100 mph at Mile Marker 99 in Key Largo. Deputy Jackson was unable to observe the make and model of the car given how fast it was traveling. Deputy Jackson pulled onto U.S. 1 to initiate a traffic stop, but determined that attempting to perform a traffic stop would be unsafe, given how far the car was ahead of him. Deputy Jackson informed other Deputies on the radio of the suspect vehicle.
Deputy Ignacio Molina heard Deputy Jackson’s be-on-the-lookout alert and observed a car speeding southbound near Lobster Lane. Deputy Molina also pulled onto U.S. 1 and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but he too determined it to be unsafe.
A southbound motorist called 911 at 3:04 a.m. to report a southbound white car with a black roof on U.S. 1 traveling well over 100 mph.
Deputy Corbin Hradecky was conducting traffic enforcement near Mile Marker 61 at 3:16 a.m. when he observed a southbound vehicle traveling 111 mph. Deputy Hradecky pulled onto U.S. 1 to conduct a traffic stop. He observed the suspect vehicle to be a Mitsubishi Eclipse®. Deputy Hradecky observed the car to continue southbound before breaking for very hard to avoid slamming into the rear of Deputy Cristian [sic] Santos’ southbound patrol vehicle. The suspect vehicle continued southbound before stopping at Toms Harbor Cut Bridge.
Deputies Hradecky and Santos ordered the driver, later identified as Bloom, out of the car at gun point. There were no passengers.
Bloom refused to open the door or exit the car. Deputy Hradecky pulled Bloom out of the car and placed him into custody.
When asked why he was driving so fast, Bloom responded that he was traveling with the flow of traffic. Bloom smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech.
Bloom was taken to jail.
