Woman Arrested on Drug Warrant

On May 31st the Key West Police Department Special Investigations Unit and Special Response team executed a search warrant at Robert Gabriel Apartments with the assistance of Homeland Security Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Detectives obtained a search warrant when a narcotics investigation led to Jessica Wonderful Leatherwood, 29. Leatherwood sold fentanyl to undercover operatives on multiple occasions. She was out on bond from a previous case in which she also sold fentanyl to undercover operatives. Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid that is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine.  A lethal dose of fentanyl is only 2 milligrams — similar to 5-7 grains of salt.

Inside the home, detectives and special agents found 4.1 grams of fentanyl, cocaine, and drug paraphernalia. The fentanyl was found in 23 separate bags that were individually packaged for sales.

Leatherwood was not home at the time of the search warrant, and arrest warrants were issued for the sale of fentanyl.

Leatherwood was arrested this month by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office on the outstanding warrants from the Key West Police Department.
