WLRN RADIO PLAY KEY LARGO KICKS OFF  THE 7th ANNUAL FLORIDA KEYS MUSEUM AND ATTRACTIONS WEEKEND

Miami, Fl – July 27, 2017 – WLRN, public television and radio for South Florida, is pleased to announce that a live performance and broadcast of the radio play Key Largo will kick off its annual Museum and Attractions weekend at the Studios of Key West on Thursday, August 24 at 7 p.m.  This special weekend, now in its 7th year, provides free and discounted admission to museums and galleries throughout Key West and the Florida Keys.

The performance is part of a partnership between WLRN and Arts Radio Network Theatre Project, which brings live radio theater performances to the four counties that WLRN serves – Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe. This year, ARNTP chose Key Largo, based on the classic 1948 noir film starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.  In addition to the script being the perfect setting for a play in the Keys, the cast will be comprised of actors from the Key West theater community. The Studios of Key West also serves as the home of WLRN’s Southernmost news bureau, making this truly a “hometown” event.  The performance will be broadcast live on 91.3 WLRN and 91.5 WKWM in the Florida Keys.

Tickets for Key Largo are $15 general admission and $10 for Studios and WLRN members.  To learn more information and to purchase tickets, visit tskw.org.

About Key LargoKey Largo follows World War II vet Frank McCloud’s visit to a hotel run by the widow of a fallen war buddy. McCloud realizes that mobsters, led by the infamous Johnny Rocco, are staying in the hotel. When the criminals take over the establishment, conflict and a hurricane threaten to tear everyone apart.

In addition, ARNTP will host a sound effects workshop on Wednesday, August 23 at 5 PM at the studios of Key West. Members of the cast and crew of Key Largo will show what it takes to bring a radio play to life. Audience members will get to see firsthand how the artists create the sound effects that enhance the experience. This is a hands-on workshop for children and adults. Admission is free but reservations are required – please send an email with number of tickets requested to [email protected].

About The Arts Radio Network Theatre Project

From The Mercury Theatre to A Prairie Home Companion, the radio play is a uniquely American art form, and one of this country’s most beloved. During the 1930s through 50s, live performances of plays broadcast over the radio were a part of everyday life. The Arts Radio Network Theatre Project (ARNTP) is a unique combination of the nostalgia of classic radio drama, and the excitement of a live theatrical performance. ARNTP presented its first production, a reenactment of The Mercury Theatre’s infamous War of the Worlds broadcast, in 2002. Since then, the company has performed in numerous venues throughout South Florida. www.artsradionetwork.com
