Winners of the Tennessee Williams Competitions Announced

Each year, the Tennessee Williams Museum, in partnership with the Key West Art & Historical Society, hosts its annual Tennessee Williams Birthday Celebration throughout March.  Activities include a series of literary-based programs, contests and fundraisers celebrating the renowned American playwright Tennessee Williams, a 34-year resident of the island.  The Museum is marking its tenth anniversary this year and the 110th birthday of the writer.

As part of Williams’ birthday festival, the museum organized poetry, short story, and plein air painting contests. It would like to recognize all the 2021 winners.

First place in the poetry contest was awarded to Shelley Gillon for “My Life on the Line Between Death and Desire,” while second place went to Christina Baptista for “Curing Beasts.” In the short story component of the contest, Alyson Osborn was awarded first place for “Dear Mr. Williams,” while second place went to Allana Ensley for “My Final Ride to Peace.”

Plein air painters were invited to capture an element of Williams’ Key West and were split into professional and recreational categories.  First place in the professional category was won by Andy Thurber for “A Streetcar Named Duval” and second place went to Fran Decker for “Waterfront Playhouse.”  In the recreational category, Haley Herriott earned first place for “1431 Duncan” and Renne Siewers secured second with “Yesterday, Tomorrow.”
