WHO IS LILLIAN BAXTER?

Fringe Theater announces the return of Lillian Baxter to the Little Room Jazz Club, Dec 21-31. An Evening with Lillian Baxter is cabaret meets the Great American Songbook in high heels.

“You simply can’t miss this delightful comedy-cabaret-memoir of the greatest star nobody’s ever heard of,” says theater critic and travel guide writer. Why has nobody heard of Ms Baxter?

This fictional character, created by John Vessels, was almost huge in the 1970s, the era in which the show takes place. And what a show it is! An Evening with Lillian Baxter traces the steps (and sometimes the beds) that made in Lillian’s long trek to obscurity. Along for the ride on this musical romp down memory lane is Lillian’s faithful accompanist, international playboy (and favorite ex-husband) Corky Weinstopper. The show explores Lillian’s early days at MGM to her short television career (on such hit shows as The Thrifty Vittles Happy-Time Song Hour). But no set-back is big enough to stop Lillian Baxter from living, loving, and singing her hear out!

“Jay and I are Lillian’s biggest fans,” says the very real John Vessels of his partner Jay Schwandt, who both plays the piano and arranges the music for all the Lillian Baxter shows. “I love Lillian’s positive outlook, and Jay is crazy about her voice.” And what a powerful voice it is! Audiences will be blown away by the music (and the laughs) in this show.

An Evening with Lillian Baxter plays Dec 21-31 at 7pm at the Little Room Jazz Club which is located at 821 Duval Street. Doors open at 6pm for a 7pm show.
