Volunteers Wanted for Crosstown Greenway Improvements

On November 20th, 21st, and 22nd, the City of Key West, Street Plans, and citizen volunteers will be implementing Phase I of the Crosstown Greenway Pilot Project.

Phase I consists of sightline improvements and wayfinding to help the many students, commuters, visitors, and citizens of Key West navigate the designated bike route. Volunteers are requested for help with the following painting and basic mobility improvements:

  • Chicanes along George to slow traffic in a neighborhood and provide a clear line of sight down George St. for people crossing between Staples Ave. and Von Phister St.
  • Bike racks installed at Third St. and Staples Ave. along the public right of way to provide high school students a space to secure their bike while school is in session.
  • Curb extensions at Fifth St. and Staples Ave. to provide better line of sight for everyone crossing the street.
  • Cross bike markings at Seventh and Twelfth Streets to indicate the presence of bicycles.
  • Bike box at South St. and Reynolds to help riders turn on to South.

The supplies and design for this project were funded by a grant from the Health Foundation of South Florida
