“Village with a Voice” historic photo collection Opening Reception at Douglass Gym and Community Center, Bahama Village
Join us on Saturday June 1st from 5pm to 7 pm in celebrating the homecoming of the historical photo collection of Bahama Village at the Frederick Douglass Gym and Community Center, 111 Olivia Street, Key West.
Donated by the Old Island Restoration Foundation to the City of Key West Art In Public Places Program this photo collection has now found a permanent home in the renovated Frederick Douglass Gym and Community Center.
Originally under art direction of Richard Moody in 1999, this collection of 29 photographs taken by Thomas Butler, Scott Wilcox and Richard Weatherwax capture not only a moment in time but reveal a glimpse of the rich history of Bahama Village.
A visual presentation of oral histories documented by Mia Castillo and D. Phipps. Inspired by this collection will premiere at this event. Live entertainment will be brought to you by the Bahama Village African Dance Troupe and the Bahama Village Music Program.
