United Way of the Florida Keys to “Stuff the Bus”
This July and August, United Way of the Florida Keys will “Stuff the Bus,” collecting school supplies for children throughout the Keys who need them.
In Monroe County, almost 50% of school aged children come from families who don’t earn enough money to afford their basic necessities. Many of them begin the school year without school supplies such as paper, pencils, backpacks, and notebooks.
UWFK’s “Stuff the Bus” program provides school supplies for these children, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed academically. The Stuff the Bus supply drive produces truckloads of school supplies to be distributed to Monroe County schools from Key Largo to Key West.
Local companies can become sponsors of “Stuff the Bus” by collecting $250 worth of school supplies through a supply drive with their employees or customers, or by making a contribution of $250 or more. Supplies will be collected until the end of August.
Individuals can participate in “Stuff the Bus” by taking school supplies to a sponsor’s business, making a donation online at https://www.gofundme.com/stuffthebus2017, shopping at Publix and buying “Tools for Schools” gift cards at the checkout counter, or by attending a Back to School celebration at the Hard Rock Café in Key West from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on August 1st. Admission is free with the donation of school supplies.
United Way will purchase additional school supplies for Keys schools with every dollar donated in the community. For information on “Stuff the Bus,” call the United Way office at 305-735-1929, or email [email protected]
Donations to support the work of UWFK and our local nonprofit partner agencies are accepted year-round. If you would like to make a donation, you can access our online giving portal by clicking the “Donate” button at http://www.keysunitedway.org. Thank you for helping us become the leader in community caring!
