Two men cited in tarpon case
Two men from Hialeah, Florida were given mandatory notice to appear in court citations Saturday for harvesting a tarpon.
Deputies Jacob Ladd and Anthony Zito were conducting resource checks near the Bahia Honda Bridge in the area of Mile Marker 35 at approximately 2:32 a.m. when they observed a group fishing. They also observed a headless, descaled tarpon carcass nearby.
Upon investigation, Luis Manuel Salazar, 57, and Jan Alberto Dominguez-Parra, 37, were both cited.
Tarpon is a catch-and-release-only fishery. One tarpon tag per person per year may be purchased when in pursuit of a Florida state or world record.
