Two fatal, separate marine incidents

The Sheriff’s Office was notified and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating two fatal marine incidents that occurred hours apart Friday in different areas of the Florida Keys.

The first occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. when an incident occurred on a Sunset Watersports parasailing vessel off Key West.

A man and a woman were taken to Lower Keys Medical Center whereupon the male was pronounced dead. The female was airlifted to a Miami hospital.

What occurred/caused the incident is being investigated by the FWC. The Sheriff’s Office has no further information.

The second fatal incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. about five miles off the Long Key Bridge in the Middle Keys near Mile Marker 70 on the bayside.

There were reportedly five people aboard 36-foot Contender center console traveling approximately 50 mph. It was raining and those aboard were looking for a channel marker in the dark.

The vessel made a hard turn in rough seas. Three of the five aboard were ejected.

One person was killed after being reportedly run over by the boat.
