Two arrested, one still wanted for armed robbery

Two teens have been arrested and one is still wanted for an armed robbery which took place on Stock Island in the early morning hours of October 22nd.

The incident took place in the parking lot of Coral Hammock apartments on Stock Island. Four teens from Marathon were walking in the area when a black truck pulled up to them.  The driver yelled at them. They kept walking. They saw the truck make a U turn and come back toward them. They ran and jumped a fence into the parking lot of Coral Hammock. The black truck, accompanied by a silver truck, then pulled into the entrance of the apartment complex. That is where the robbery took place.

The driver of the black truck got out, wearing a mask over his face and a hoodie. He  pointed a gun at the head of one of the victims and demanded he hand over his bag and cell phone. He also demanded, at gunpoint, the password for the cell phone. The suspect then used the victim’s phone to post a snapchat photo on the victim’s snap chat account. The photo depicted the suspect, face still covered and the words “Never going to kw again.”

The victim called the Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Matt Dowling responded to the location where the robbery took place. As he was interviewing the victims, a silver truck drove by and the teens told him that was one of the trucks involved in the robbery. Deputy Dowling attempted to follow the truck but lost sight of it. The black truck involved in the robbery was later found burned behind barricades in a wooded area on 12th Avenue, Stock Island. Further investigation revealed the black truck had reportedly been stolen from the city of Key West just before the incident on Stock Island.

Deputy David Fernandez was assigned to investigate the robbery case. One witness in the case reported he had received several Facetime videos from a phone belonging to a teen named John Mann, Jr. The videos featured an 18 year old Big Coppitt boy named Isiah Rodriguez. In the videos, Rodriguez reportedly brandished a gun and pointed it at the camera . Rodriguez and one of the victims reportedly have had long-standing issues between them. In addition, Mann drives a silver truck which matches the description of the second truck involved in the robbery.

Further investigation led to the identification of three suspects in the robbery case. Warrants were issued for all three. So far two of the three have been arrested and one is still wanted. 17 year old John Mann Jr. of Cudjoe Key and 17 year old Nathan Borrego of Stock Island were both charged with Robbery with a firearm on November 15th. 18 year old Isaiah Rodriguez is wanted on the same charge. Bond on his warrant is set at $250,000.

Investigations into the other related crimes are still going on and more charges are pending the completion of those investigations.
