Traffic Violation Leads to Drug Arrest
On November 16th, the Key West Police Department Special Investigations Unit conducted a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Joseph Byron Symington, 42, for multiple traffic violations.
During the traffic stop, K9 Mango alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle.
Detectives searched the truck and found 2.2 grams of crack cocaine, 2.2 grams of fentanyl powder, and 0.1 grams of cocaine powder. Detectives also found a digital scale with cocaine residue, consistent with street-level narcotics sales.
Symington was arrested on three counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Symington is currently on probation for firearms charges. He was transported to jail.
