The Studios of Key West’s annual event on Jan 31st
The Studios of Key West’s annual event Slideshow will take place Tuesday, January 31 at 8 p.m. at 533 Eaton Street.
Produced by Marky Pierson and Mark Hedden, Slideshow is an exercise in experimental storytelling, like a story slam but without the slam, and with pictures. Participants tell short five-to-ten minute tales – some true, some fictional – illustrated by projected photos or drawings.
“Slideshow is usually both informative and silly,” said Pierson. “And occasionally it’s just wildly inspired.”
“What I like about this project is that we never know how it is going to turn out until we do it. It’s always a little terrifying, but it always turns out great,” said Hedden.
Presenters for this, the third edition of the project, include Joy Nulisch with a brief and definitive history of the controversial H.O.B. tiger statue, Tom Flip on a multi-year erotic photo project, and archivist Breana Sowers on the accidental art images found in the Key West history collection, and Ian Q. Rowan on the strange and endangered beast known as the Narwhal.
Other presenters include Tamara Alvarez on the mysteries of the artistic process, and Snow Phillips on aspects of Key West architecture, and comedian, actress and yoga teacher Anne Walters on her “flexible” career path.
Tickets are $15 for the general public and $10 for members.
