The Chooi Brothers to Perform on February 13th

Brothers Timothy and Nikki Chooi will perform the third concert of the Key West Impromptu Concerts 2022 50th Anniversary season on February 13th at St. Paul’s Church.

The Chooi Brothers, a popular and much sought-after ensemble of two brothers who know what to expect of each other when they perform as a duo with a pair of violins. “My brother has always been a very big role model for me”, says Timothy of his older brother, Nikki. Born in Victoria, British Columbia, the brothers began playing the Suzuki method at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, and not many years later both became recipients of some of the world’s most prestigious international competitions. Although touring together for 5 years, they actively continue on with their individual performance schedules.

Nikki Chooi served as concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra for the 2016-17 season where he performed solos in Verdi’s La Traviata, Janacek’s Jenufa, and can be heard on their Grammy nominated recording of Strauss’ Rosenkavalier. He has appeared as Guest Concertmaster with the Pittsburgh Symphony, Houston Symphony and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Described as “the  miracle violinist” (Montreal Lapresse), Timothy was awarded the top prize at the 2018 Verbier Festival Academy in Switzerland for which he was recognized as being the most accomplished and promising musician in the competition. He returns to Key West having been selected to present a solo concert as Impromptu’s “Rising Star” in 2019.

The concert takes place at 4:00 pm on February 13th at St. Paul’s Church on Duval St. with a program that includes works of Sergei Prokofiev, J.S. Bach, and Niccolo Paganini.
