Key West, FL: The American Red Cross Greater Miami & the Keys Chapter is proud to announce the Florence Spottswood 2017 Humanitarian of the Year Honorees, the Ross and Janice Elwell family and the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Honoree, Dr. Shirley Freeman.
The Florence Spottswood Humanitarian award is given annually to an individual or individuals who have worked to make the Keys a better place for everyone. The Lifetime Achievement award is bestowed during those years that an outstanding community leader is identified and recognized for years of exceptional service.
The announcement was made October 12th at a party hosted by Bert Whitt and Dennis Beaver, the 2016 honorees. The Elwell family has been a staple in the Florida Keys, starting Royal Furniture in 1984 and serving the community through outreach and charitable support.
Dr. Shirley Freeman has been chosen as the 2017 Lifetime Achievement honoree for her lifetime of dedication to education, arts, and her community.
The Florence Spottswood Humanitarian of the Year award was established in 1995 to recognize outstanding works of local community members.
