The 2018 ROYAL CORONATION BALL, to benefit A.H. of Monroe County, Inc.

The endgame of ‘Regal Antics and Checkmates’ nears…but not without one final stroll around the metaphorical chess board.

That’s because there’s still The Royal Coronation Ball, presented for the first time at the Key West Amphitheater at Truman Waterfront, on Friday, October 19th.

One final party, with the Gulf as the soundtrack and a Friday night sky going South Florida violet as the backdrop, will determine who will become 2018’s reigning Royalty, beginning at 6:00 PM.

Mike Syring, Bernadette Restivo, Diamond Dave, Jennifer Hughes and Larry Blackburn have worked tirelessly as goodwill ambassadors for A.H. of Monroe County, Inc. (AH) for 8 weeks of frenzied, frisky, feisty and always fabulous fundraising events Keys-wide, assisted by a corps of volunteers, to raise the most money and ascend to the throne.

Special events have ranged from a weekly ‘Aqua Idol’ competition to upstairs Sunday BINGO at the 801 Bourbon Bar…a Royal Retrospective of the history of Fantasy Fest Royalty at The Custom House…to The 6th Annual Red Shirt Run.

In-between and throughout, there was madness with martinis, bunches of brunches, oodles of orchids…2nd chance proms and Truman Capote parties. They cruised the sunset, Wii bowled and teed off, had a hoedown, wined and designed, donned boxers and boas and tutus, picnicked and relived Broadway’s biggest hits with some of the Keys’ most-beloved performers.

And yet the finale promises more strategic moves.

“We never know quite what to expect when our 5 Candidates take the stage,” noted AH Executive Director Scott Pridgen. “They may somehow reprise their Kick-Off production number, stage something brand-new, or simply address the audience from the heart about why they’re raising money or AH.”

3 tiers have been identified as requiring equal support. Dollars raised by the Royal Candidates will be distributed among:

  1. Direct Client Services/ Prevention and Education. Medical Case Management can provide services not covered by other resources, such as non-covered prescription medications, alternative therapies, nutrition and neuropathy programs, but outside funding is necessary to reduce transmission and infection via intensive education and prevention methodology, including special workshops outside of normal business hours and facilities, community interventions and consistent social media messaging.
  2. The goal of AH is to have its own in-house clinic either through partnership with another clinic…or to build their own. Included in this is Resource Identification. ANY resident of Monroe County can speak with an AH Medical Case Manager about various eligibilities and requirements.
  3. Housing. Its lack in the Keys is overwhelming and it is a significant contributing factor in substance abuse, mental health/suicide, poor decision-making and general wellness. The Agency’s payor of last resort assistance includes security deposits, shelter care and collaboration with the Monroe County Homeless Services Continuum of Care, Inc.

The 2018 Royal Coronation Ball will be hosted, like last year, by Bria; she and Erin McKenna are producing under the supervision of Nadene Grossman Orr/We’ve Got The Keys.

Admission to The 2018 Royal Coronation Ball is a suggested donation of $10 and includes two votes for the candidate(s) of your choice.
