Teens arrested following road rage incident

Two teenagers were arrested Monday night after brandishing firearms (later determined to be Airsoft guns) during a road rage incident on U.S. 1.

Michael Anthony Midling, 17, of Key Largo, was charged with aggravated assault and improper exhibition of a firearm.

A 15-year-old, also of Key Largo, was charged with improper exhibition of a firearm.

There were no reported injuries.

The victim, a 29-year-old Bradenton, Florida man, told Deputy Andersen Harrill at 7:15 p.m. that he was driving southbound when he attempted to pass a black Buick sport-utility-vehicle. The victim provided the tag number, which was relayed to other Deputies. The victim stated he apparently upset the driver and occupants of the Buick when he attempted to pass them. The victim stated the driver displayed a black GLOCK handgun and pointed it at him and his family. There were three other family members in the victim’s vehicle, including his newborn baby. The victim stated the passenger in the Buick also displayed a handgun, but did not point it at him. The victim stated he feared for his life and the safety of his family.

Deputies Harrill,  Alexandria Hradecky and Sgt. Robert Dosh subsequently conducted a felony traffic stop of the suspect Buick SUV in Tavernier with their service weapons drawn due to their belief that real firearms were in the vehicle.

The victim identified Midling as the suspect who pointed a gun at him and the 15-year-old as the front passenger who also displayed a gun, but did not point it at him.

Two Airsoft handguns were found in the SUV. One of the Airsoft guns was all black and did not have an orange muzzle.

The two juveniles were taken to jail. The Department of Juvenile Justice was notified.

A third juvenile male in the Buick SUV was not charged in the incident.
