Teacher dies day after being hit by SUV outside high school
HOLIDAY, Fla. (AP) — A Florida teacher died Friday, a day after being struck by an SUV and trapped underneath it in the back parking lot of a Tampa Bay area high school, officials said.
The Pasco County School District announced the death of Ciara McKeon on Friday afternoon.
The 28-year-old woman had been taken to a local hospital with serious injuries following the Thursday morning incident outside Anclote High School, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. McKeon later was flown to Tampa General Hospital, where she died of her injuries Friday.
The FHP report said the 24-year-old male driver “failed to observe” the pedestrian. No charges were immediately filed.
A crisis team has responded to the school to offer assistance to students and staff at the school, district officials said.
The school is in Holiday, which is northwest of Tampa.
