Tablet thief arrested in restaurant burglary
A 36-year-old Marathon man was arrested early Wednesday for stealing a computer tablet from a barbecue restaurant.
Robert Benjamin Albury was charged with burglary and grand theft.
Deputy Anfernee Rodriguez responded to Porky’s Bayside Restaurant and Marina in Marathon on Tuesday whereupon the owner had security video showing a man entering the business and looking around. Eventually, the suspect takes a Samsung® tablet from the bar area that belongs to the business. The business owner put also put the video on Facebook® to which a responder stated that the person in the video was known as “Tommy Bahama” around town and that he was recently released from the Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island. Another poster on Facebook® stated they had seen the suspect numerous times loitering near the utility pole at 15th Street and U.S. 1.
Deputy Rodriguez ascertained that “Tommy Bahama” was Albury from previous encounters with law enforcement. Albury was identified as the suspect in the video.
Albury was spotted walking along 23rd Street early Wednesday morning.
Albury stated he misplaced the stolen tablet in question and no longer knew where it was. He was also wearing a red shirt, the same shirt as seen on the suspect in the video.
Albury was taken to jail.
