SUPERINTENDENT PLANS TO ADDRESS DISTRICT SAFETY AND SECURITY AT SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

WHO:   School Board Members, Executive Leadership Team, the Public, GEMs

WHAT: School board members plan to meet with school district officials for a regular meeting and closed executive session. Three closed sessions are scheduled before board members reconvene the regular meeting. Superintendent Mark Porter plans to speak at the board meeting about safety and security in MCSD schools. Superintendent Porter said he is working closely with law enforcement. “We have had an outpouring response, and rightfully so, from concerned parents and the community. We want to reassure our parents, students, staff, and the community that we will continue to make student safety and security our top priority.”

District officials and board members also plan to visit the Florida Key’s Children Shelter, an alternative education site in the upper Keys. Alternative Education Director Michael Henriquez gave an update to the board about each site in the keys and the Alternative Education program, at the February 13th meeting.

 Board members plan to vote on the property and casualty insurance coverage and premiums and a purchase for the Key West High School Auto Mechanic program.
