Spotlight on local Key West Burlesque favorite Mona Amour
October 12, 2017 – (Key West, FL). Fans of Key West Burlesque favorite “Moana Amour” will be delighted anew when the “Polish Dynamo” takes the stage in the troupe’s latest extravaganza, “Taking it Off to See the Wizard: A Burlesque Parody” which kicks off at 8:00pm Friday, October 20th at Key West’s Waterfront Playhouse, 310 Wall Street.
Born Monika Jarzecka, Amour is a ten-year veteran of the troupe, joining during their early off-Duval days, practicing and performing in the back room of photo studio Senses at Play and at other local businesses and community events. With roles that have spanned the gamut from a 1950s housewife to a horse, Amour now performs both locally and internationally in big-stage extravaganzas with some of the finest burlesque entertainers from across the county. She has toured the West coast twice, offering her sparkling energy to crowds in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Vancouver, and Las Vegas, and has performed and offered burlesque workshops at Michelle L’Amour Studios in Chicago.
“I think that burlesque doesn’t get as much credit as other art,” she says. “Perhaps some assume that we just put makeup on and strip when in reality it’s so much work.”
Amour and her fellow burlesque performers spend long hours creating their acts, rehearsing, and making sure the lights, sound, and stage effects are all perfectly in place before show time.
“Many of us make our own costumes, edit our own music, and create our own choreography,” she says. “We are just as professional as other artists and we put so much into it.”
Taking it Off to See the Wizard: A Burlesque Parody” runs for eight evening performances featuring Amour along with a hit-list of favorite local performers, international burlesque superstars, amazing aerial acrobats, and all your favorite Oz icons, right down to a sparkling red pair of larger-than-life shoes.
“During the past three years, I feel like my skills have bloomed and I understand the way this art works by mixing my dance skills and burlesque tease,” she says. “I am looking forward to continue my burlesque career and making it my full-time job.”
