Speaker Series at the Key West Botanical Garden
KEY WEST, Florida Keys – The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden continues its monthly Speaker Series at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 17, 2024 in the Toppino Nature Chapel. Featured Speaker is Karen DeMaria, City of Key West Urban Forestry Manager whose topic will be, “The City of Key West Tree Ordinance-General Information and a year in review.”
Do you need a permit to remove, transplant, or heavy trim your trees or palms? What are the permitting procedures in the City of Key West? Is the Tree Ordinance and permitting program helping the tree canopy? The City of Key West Urban Forestry manager will answer these questions and discuss the 2023 permitting program and year in review to include how many permits issued, closed, and what tree species where removed and what species of trees were planted.
Karen has been the City’s Urban Forester for the past 12 years and is an ISA certified arborist. Her background is that of an environmental consultant with over 30 years experience working in the Florida Keys and its natural areas. She has also been a mentor for Take Stock In Children and a Girl Scout Leader.
