South Florida Regional Planning Council to meet Monday, June 26th in Key Largo
Key West, Florida. – The South Florida Regional Planning Council will hold its monthly meeting at the Murray E. Nelson Government and Cultural Center in Key Largo, MM 102, at 10:30 a.m. The South Florida Regional Planning Council is a regional, public policy and governmental body whose board consists of county and municipal representatives, Governor’s appointees, and state agency representatives from Monroe, Miami-Dade, and Broward counties. Monroe County representatives are Monroe County Mayor George Neugent, County Commissioner David Rice, Key West Commissioner Jimmy Weekley and Governor appointee Sandra Walters.
At this month’s meeting, the Council welcomes special guests the Honorable Holly Raschein, State Representative, District 120; the Honorable Heather Carruthers, Monroe County Commissioner, District 1; Eric Buck, Manager, Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves, of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Coastal Office; Steve Davis, PhD., Ecologist with The Everglades Foundation; and Florida International University Professor James W. Fourqurean, PhD., Director of the Marine Education and Research Initiative for the Florida Keys, and Principal Investigator of the Aquarius Reef Base.
“We are delighted to be meeting in the Florida Keys and look forward to receiving an update from our distinguished guests on the recently concluded state legislative session (the Honorable Holly Raschein); the inaugural meeting of the U.S. House of Representative’s Climate Solutions Caucus chaired by Congressman Carlos Curbelo (the Honorable Heather Carruthers); and information on Everglades restoration and connectivity to Biscyane and Florida Bays, seagrass biology and dieoff (Eric Buck, Dr. David, and Dr. Fourqueran). We encourage and welcome the participation of the public at this important briefing,” said Chairman Tim Daubert, City Commissioner, City of Miami Lakes.
