Small Business Saturday
The City of Key West celebrates our local small businesses and the contributions they make to our local economy and community. And that’s why Mayor Teri Johnston and the City Commission proclaimed the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Small Business Saturday.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, there are 33 million small businesses in the United States. They represent 99.7 percent of firms with paid employees, are responsible for 62.7 percent of net new jobs created since 1995, and employ 46.4 percent of the employees in the private sector in the United States.
“The City of Key West supports our local businesses that create jobs, boost our local economy, and preserve our communities,” reads the proclamation.
Key West Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kerry Baker accepted the proclamation, noting that “small businesses are the heart of our community. It is extremely important to support them not only on Small Business Saturday, but all year long.”
