Slain teens honored at Florida high school’s senior prom
PARKLAND, Fla. (AP) — Four Florida high school seniors slain in a mass shooting were honored by their classmates celebrating their senior prom.
The Sun Sentinel reports that the main ballroom at the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort was transformed Saturday into an enchanted forest for 850 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students.
A giant ice sculpture in the hallway proclaimed, “(hashtag)MSDSTRONG.” A room was set aside for anyone needing quiet reflection.
The 17 victims of the Feb. 14 massacre included four seniors: Meadow Pollack, Nicholas Dworet, Joaquin Oliver and Carmen Schentrup.
The Miami Herald reports that one of Pollack’s friends, Carley Ogozaly, wore a pink tulle gown in the slain teen’s honor.
Ogozaly said she would have chosen a simple black dress, but wearing “this pink sparkly thing” was her way of making sure Pollack did not miss prom.
