Sheriff Rick Ramsay presents Take Stock nonprofit with check
Take Stock in Children Program Coordinator Chuck Licis received a check for $25,000 from Sheriff Rick Ramsay and the Sheriff’s Office this week. The money came from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, which is made up of funds seized in criminal cases.
Sheriff Ramsay strongly supports the program, which provides mentors for low-income youth during their middle and high school years. All students who complete the program are awarded a scholarship. Students in the program who wish to be awarded a scholarship have rules to follow, including staying in school, maintaining good grades, exhibiting good behavior, remaining crime and drug free and meeting with their mentor once a week.
Take Stock in Children is a nonprofit that works throughout Florida. Their mission is to break the cycle of poverty for low-income, academically qualified students by providing opportunities for a post-secondary education. They offer college scholarships to students and provide volunteer mentors.
