What: Protest Carlos Curbelo’s votes and statements against retirees and seniors.

When: Tuesday, November 1st at 1:00pm.

Where: Office of Congressman Carlos Curbelo, 12851 SW 42nd Street, Suite 131, Miami, FL 33175.

Visuals: Dozens of retirees, seniors and concerned citizens waving signs, chanting and demanding Carlos Curbelo answer for his votes and statements.

Carlos Curbelo has a clear history of voting against the interests of our retirees and seniors. He took  a page from Trump and called Social Security a Ponzi scheme, then went even further than Trump and called Medicare a Ponzi Scheme too. Curbelo also supported the Paul Ryan budget that would have privatized Social Security and turned Medicare into a voucher system. He then voted in support of Ryan’s plan by passing a similar budget that cuts $5.5 trillion from programs that help seniors and turns Medicare into a voucher system.

Joe Garcia served South Florida in Congress from 2013 to 2015.  He is currently running for election against Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo in a Congressional District that has been redrawn and favors Democrats. National and local Democrats have invested heavily in Garcia, with the DCCC placing over $5 million in television and radio ads that are currently running in the district.  Joe Garcia is beating Curbelo in the most recent poll.

Jon Bauman is best known as “Bowzer” from the hit TV series and musical group, “Sha Na Na.” But, since 2004, he has traveled the country acting as a surrogate on senior issues for literally dozens of political campaigns. Jon has worked almost every special election for the House of Representatives since 2010, including wins for Mark Critz in PA and Kathy Hochul in NY. He may be the only activist who participated in all of the 13 districts in the Wisconsin Senate recalls, as well as the successful “No on Issue 2” campaign in Ohio.

Senior Votes Count! is the first Seniors organization created with a specifically electoral purpose. Seniors vote. They show up in the “on” years and the “off” years. And they tend to make up a large share of the electorate in “swing” states and “swing” districts—where elections are the hardest fought and where the balance of power is most frequently decided.
