School security assessments underway
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Monroe County School District conducted a security assessment at Coral Shores High School, 89901 Old Highway, Tavernier, Tuesday.
The assessment is being done in light of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, which requires local law enforcement and school districts to evaluate and improve safety and security in Florida schools.
Students, parents, faculty and residents will see an increased law enforcement presence at all public schools in the near future and should not be alarmed.
Authorities are conducting these assessments in accordance with the new law.
Similar assessments will be conducted at each school in the district. Sugarloaf School was the first to be assessed last month.
