School Resource Officers Commended by Commission

The Key West City Commission, during its regular meeting Tuesday, commended the School Resource Officers, the Key West Police Department, the City Manager and the Monroe County School District for the quick and effective implementation of the officers in our schools.

“This commendation is presented by the City of Key West Commission with gratitude for enhancing the safety of our community’s public schools,” reads the commendation. “Thanks to coordinated efforts between the City, the police department, and the school board, three more SROs were added to the schools even before it became a federal mandate.”

Monroe County now has a resource officer on every public school campus.

“These officers have conducted themselves with professionalism, enhancing the safety and operations of our school community by teaching parents about internet safety, instituting the ‘Text to Tip’ program in grades three through five, creating and evaluating drills, outfitting students with bike helmets, mentoring students, making presentations to classes about bullying, stealing and hitting, assisting with traffic control, being vigilant about suspicious activity and possible threats, and conducting child welfare checks.”
